Yes, it’s that time of year again. Seaside Park in Bridgeport is hosting another Gathering of the Vibes this weekend, July 25th-28th. Over the span of four days, 44 bands will play at the park located on Long Island Sound. This includes headliners such as The Roots, The John Butler Trio, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. But, amidst the sea of tie-dye is one thing that could put a screeching halt to your good vibes – the police.

That’s right, police are in full force at the festival every year, and this year is no different. Police plan to do what they have done in the past to keep everyone safe and under control. Bridgeport police prepare with multiple EMS, police, and firefighter meetings before the event takes place. Specialized units such as a narcotics squad and the mounted police will be there. Also, there will be around 40 officers keeping an eye on things at peak times during the festival. This year, police have two main focuses during the festival – keeping everyone safe in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, and crack down on the possession and use of illegal substances.

Last year’s Vibes saw 30 arrests – 20 of which were related to narcotic violations. The year before, there were 35 arrests related to substance abuse alone. People who attend the festival have been caught in possession of drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, and mushrooms, among others. Slightly out of the ordinary findings of laughing gas and even cat tranquilizers have been reported. Bottom line is that the police are out in full force at this festival. They have the experience to know that there will be illegal drug use at the event, and they know how to find it.
If you are attending the festivities this weekend, be cautious. Every year without fail there are arrests related to drugs and alcohol. Don’t get added to the number of narcotic violations this weekend.
