How Long
As a condition of restoring your license after it suspended due to a DUI, the State of Connecticut will require you to install and maintain an ignition interlock device (IID) in your vehicle. The length of time for this will depend on how many DUIs you have had and if you took a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) test when arrested. You can learn more about the IID and how long you will have to use it on this page.
IID Requirements
This requirement for an IID starts after your 45 days license suspension. It can only begin once you file a P-246 form with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). You can get a copy of this form here. This form is required along with a $175.00 restoration fee and the $100.00 IID Administration fee. They should be submitted two weeks before your suspension period is over so that there is no delay in your license being restored with the IID device.
Time Requirements
Below is information on the requirements for an IID after a DMV Per Se license suspension. Your specific requirement would be on your license suspension notice. It is important to note that these requirements are slightly different if found guilty of DUI in the criminal court proceeding. The requirements for IID in those cases might be extended beyond what is listed below. For those penalties you can look here: IID Penalties after a court conviction:
