Steps to Take

Before getting started with a pardon application, there are a few things that you need to do. There is some paperwork that is required as part of the application process. While it might seem overwhelming to gather a bunch of information in preparation for your application, we will break down the steps for you so that you can get this done as easily as possible. Getting started on this paperwork as soon as possible will help your pardon application go smoothly. Having a complete and detailed application will also increase your chances of having your application accepted. If you do it right the first time, you likely won’t have to go back and reapply. Keep in mind that the Board of Pardons requires a submission of a fingerprint card and a background investigation. Here, you can learn more about these things and how to get them.

Fingerprint Cards

A fingerprint card needs to be completed and presented to the State Police as part of your pardon application. We provide our pardon clients with fingerprint cards, and it is their responsibility to have their fingerprints done. The fingerprint card includes basic information, and then spots where the fingerprints go. The fingerprint card must be filled out before a person can receive a full criminal history.

Completing the fingerprint card and the background investigation release form is essential before starting the pardon application. If you need help with this process, contact our office for help.

Background Investigation

Before filling out the pardon application, it is required that you know of all of your prior crimes in any jurisdiction and the dates of those convictions. You need to know these things so that you can provide this information on your pardon application. Failing to list all of the prior convictions or the dates could result in a denial of the pardon application. Because of this, it can be helpful to have an attorney help with the pardon process. It is easy to make mistakes when navigating the difficulties of the criminal justice system, and having an attorney help can prevent these issues.

The background investigation release form must be signed. Signing the release form authorizes the release of all information related to employment, personnel records, criminal records, educational records, investigative records, credit records, tax or bank records, correctional records, sealed records, confidential records or other information. We can assist with this process as well. Just contact our office to learn more about your background investigation or to have your questions answered.

Getting Help

Getting all of this information and completing it can be difficult and time consuming. This is especially the case for many of our clients, who don’t have knowledge of the justice system, legal terminology, or experience with the process. If you are considering applying for a pardon, and you are hesitant because you do not know how or where to start, contact our office to speak with someone who can assist you and answer your questions. We are happy to help you through the pardon process.
