Just as I have been reviewing the annual reports for some of the pardon department’s recent years, I want to review pardon statistics. Pardon statistics are important to look at to see patterns in pardon approval and denial. This can help you as you prepare your own pardon application. You can understand what to expect from the pardon process by taking a look at these statistics. For pardon statistics for 2012-2015 in the state of Connecticut, read on!

2012-2013 Pardon Statistics

In the 2012-2013 calendar year, the Board of Pardons received 983 pardon applications. Of these applications, they deemed 717 of them eligible for review. Of the 717 applications reviewed, 333 got granted. There were 277 full pardons, 34 provisional pardons/certificates of eligibility, and 22 conditional full pardons. 381 pardon applications were denied in 2012-2013. 329 of them were denied at prescreen. 38 were denied at the full hearing. The overall grant rate for pardons for this that was 47%.

2013-2014 Pardon Statistics

In 2013-2014, the pardon statistics were about the same. The Board of Pardons received 832 pardon applications. They determined that 556 of these applications were eligible for review. 241 of these 556 pardons got granted over the course of the year. Also, 206 full pardons got granted. 32 provisional pardons or certificates of eligibility got granted during this year. Three conditional full pardons got granted. The total number of applications denied was 307. 293 applications got denied at prescreening and 14 got denied after the pardon hearing. The overall rate at which pardons got granted was 44%.

2014-2015 Pardon Statistics

In 2014-2015, the pardon rates were a little more favorable. The Board of Pardons received 1103 pardon applications. 963 of these applications got deemed eligible for review by the Board. 317 pardons got granted during this year. 249 of those were full pardons. 68 were provisional pardons or certificates of eligibility. 8 of them were conditional full pardons. This left 372 pardon applications denied. 354 of these pardons were denied at the prescreening level. 19 of them were denied after the pardon hearing. The overall grant rate for pardons during this year was 46%.

As you can see, hundreds of pardon applications are deemed ineligible for review each year. Don’t let your pardon application fall into this category! Save yourself time and money by making sure that you are eligible for a pardon before applying. Another noticeable trend from this data is that most pardons that get a pardon hearing get granted. Only a small portion of applications that go all the way to the hearing stage get denied. This will bode well for you if you get a pardon hearing.
