If you have been considering applying for a pardon in Connecticut, you will have a few different options. On this page, I will explain the different types of pardons that are available in Connecticut. Types of Pardons

You can apply for an expungement pardon, or a provisional pardon in Connecticut. An expungement pardon applies to your entire criminal history. If granted, your whole criminal history will be expunged, or erased.

A provisional pardon is another pardon option in Connecticut. The provisional pardon applies simply to your ability to get a job. This type of pardon shows a potential employer that you are employable, even though you have a criminal history. An employer cannot deny you employment based on your criminal history if you have received a provisional pardon. Pardon eligibility will depend on which pardon you want to apply for.

If you are a prisoner sentenced for eight years or more, you must serve at least four years before applying for a pardon. In sentences of less than eight years, at least one half of the term must be served, but in no event can the actual time served be less than 18 months. The Board does not count pre sentence incarceration time.

Expungement Pardon Eligibility

Not everyone can apply for an expungement pardon. It is better to determine if you are eligible before you apply so that you don’t risk wasting your time and money. If you are interested in applying for an expungement pardon, review the eligibility requirements. Under Connecticut’s new Clean Slate Bill, nearly all misdemeanors and felonies are eligible for automatic pardons once a certain amount of time since conviction has passed. However, pardons are not automatically available for those who have been convicted of sexual assault crimes or family violence crimes. In these situations, a person will have to apply for an expungement pardon and go through the original pardon application process in Connecticut.

However, keep in mind that that Connecticut now offers an expedited pardon process which can speed things up if you do have to apply for a pardon.
