Driving
As soon as they get their license, they are off! Teenagers often equate driving with freedom, but with that freedom comes responsibility, and many times the underdeveloped teenage brains cannot appreciate some of the risks associated with driving behaviors. See examples of this on our page about teenage street racing. As juvenile lawyers, we see the many common driving issues that juveniles face.
Other Common Driving Issues
Some teenagers simply cannot wait to get their license, and as a result, they choose to drive before the proper license has been administered by the DMV. In this situation, a teen can be charged with driving without a license. In other situations, teenagers break the rules when it comes to the driving restrictions imposed by the DMV. Driving outside of these restrictions, for instance, driving past curfew, or driving with unauthorized persons in the vehicle, could result in a license suspension.
If your teen is driving and pulled over by the police, they may be asked to allow the car to be searched. The police will certainly try to convince your teen to give them permission, but should they? Learn more about teaching your children to deal with the police and what to do if they are stopped in this section.
Finally, how does the prom impact teen driving laws? Are there special exceptions when it comes to curfew or who your teen can drive because this is a special occasion? You can read more here.
