Programs
All states offer programs to help juvenile delinquents get their lives back on track. The purpose of juvenile court and punishments are to rehabilitate youths and give them opportunities to succeed in the future. In the state of Connecticut, the Office of Policy and Management offers several programs to youths that do just this. Many of these programs are outlined on this page.
The Juvenile Justice Act
The Juvenile Justice Act of 1995 includes several programs and goals of the State that are designed to help rehabilitate juvenile offenders. One such service provided by the state is probation, which is designed to care for youths on an individual basis and provide them several different forms of treatment.
Treatment and Programs
Treatment for alcohol and drug abuse is available to minors, as well as treatment for emotional and behavioral problems. Anger management programs are also offered through both probation and correctional facilities. Sexual abuse treatment and treatment for health needs are also available to youths.
In addition to these treatment services, there are high quality psychological, medical, and psychiatric services available to youths. Substance abuse testing and evaluation are also offered in Connecticut. While offering these services that promote both physical and mental health, there are also educational programs offered in the state of Connecticut.
Community and School Programs
Other services under the Juvenile Justice Act of 1995 are community and school programs that promote prevention. In addition to these prevention programs are community service based programs. These programs are meant to keep youths involved in their communities and to ultimately help them care about where they live and the people that they live with. This is a service that is offered throughout the State of Connecticut and helps youths channel their energy into positive projects. Youths are encouraged to stay in their homes and create ties in their communities as much as possible. Early intervention programs are sponsored by the state of Connecticut. One such program involves the mentoring of youths by role models in the community who oftentimes came from poor backgrounds or who made mistakes early in life. These mentors are proven to have positive influences on troubled youths, by relating to them on a personal level, and showing them that they can turn their lives around.
Probation
While probation has a negative stigma associated with it, it is only meant to monitor offenders and help them to get their lives back on track. Treatment services are provided for people on probation as well as for those attending a correctional facility. If you are servicing probation or time, try to have a positive outlook towards the process and get as much out of it as possible. By taking advantage of these services, you can get your life back on track. For a more detailed list of the specific prevention services that your county offers, you can contact the Office of Management and Policy in Connecticut.
